Abed:I don't think you should. Chaos already dominates enough of our lives, the universe is an endless raging sea of randomness. Our job isn't to fight it but to weather it together. On the raft of life, a raft held together by those few, rare, beautiful things that we know to be predictable.
Britta: Ropes? Vines? ...Vines? Let him finish!
Abed: Us. It won't matter what happens to us as long as we stay honest and accepting of each others flaws and virtues.
Annie will always be driven, Shirley will always be giving. Pierce will never apologize, Britta's sort of a wildcard from my perspective.
And Jeff, will forever remain a conniving son of a bitch.
There are six sides to this die and seven of us, he devised a system by which he never has to get the pizza.Probably some errors in there,

Hey guys, here is my review for tonight's episode:

http://www.danharmonsucks.com/2011/10/14/community-review-remedial-chaos-theory-episode-3-04/

Sorry if I didn't go more in depth. I'm in college right now, and all of my Midterms are on Monday (as well as two 2,000 word essays). So I'm just getting hammered with work this week!

One of the other problems is, I'm on the West Coast. So I've been watching these 3 hours after you. Starting next week, I'm going to find a way to catch the East Coast feed, so I can start working on these review at around 6:30 my time. That way by 8-9 West Coast, you will have really big, in depth reviews. :)

Anyways, thanks again for reading and your nice comments. I always appreciate it.

- Brent

Best part was Troy and his cigarette case.

See Britta? You can have fun without drugs! ROXANNE!

Is there something here that I'm missing or are the writers trying to hint at something about the happiest reality was one without Jeff?

Admittedly, Troys reality had to be my favorite.

Ok, this is going to be obnoxious but I have to organize it.

Annie has a gun and is skittish because she lives in a bad neighborhood. She still isn't ready to set boundaries between her and jeff.

Britta is smoking dope more, particularly every time jeff rips into her.

Troy is starting to mature and it's setting jeff's insecurity off more, the same way britta was threatened by annie in hottie spill. And that happened because britta was afraid as she got older and her looks started to fade people wouldn't buy into her crap anymore.

Pierce has a troll doll troy is afraid of. He's fixated on eartha kitt. And he's sad Troy moved out.

Shirley is feeling left out because she's married and doesn't have a complicated romance.

Jeff Can't see that he has a toxic affect on the group and may have to leave it for their happiness.

And Abed is having to deal with two realities he may not be able to tell apart.

Here's my theory.

John Goodmans character gets shot with annies gun. Dean Pelton is implicated. Ben Chang has to find the real shooter and he thinks the shooters in the group. Jeff and Annie have each other as alibies, but don't want to reveal to the group they've been sleeping together, the same with Troy and Britta. Pierce and Shirley have some similar circumstance. And Abed is an unreliable witness because he's dealing with two realities at once. "I shot him because I'm evil, wait, no I'm not."
And Chang finds out the shooter is.....TADAA!. Annie's Boobs, who stole the gun from annies purse and shot goodman. And Eartha Kitt shows up to kick pierces ass for lying about her. Along with Bruce Hornsby.

I know it's a straight rip off of the simpsons, But it's the only way I can see these puzzle pieces falling into place. Just wanted to make a guess early.

As I was re-watching season 2 again I came across the halloween episode from last year where I saw that Rich tells Annie "You make quite the little nurse" which is very similar to Jeff in this episode telling Annie "You make quite the nurse". Anyone else notice this? Coincidence? I don't know.

I did, I figured it was an idiosynchracy of having the same writers. Like Losts, "Are you him?" or "You don't call you don't write."
But I could be wrong.

Like I was wrong about the underground steam train and ghost jack's ghost dad.

Guessing it's something between aerosmith's jaynies got a gun and the play title "annie get your gun"?

This episode deserves more discussion. Lets get this back going.

Clearly Jeff is the ruiner in this episode, but that doesn't mean the writers are saying he is the negative nelly in the group. I think people assume that because the episode is pretty meta on character roles in the group. But its all relative to the situation.

Jeff is threatened in this place. This is Troy's territory. The two worst timelines are when Troy and Abed are absent. The apartment is held together by them. That doesn't mean the group always is, just like this episode doesn't mean Jeff always sucks.

I don't know. Just some rambles. Pretty stoned.

At the time this was broadcasted I hadn't seen a single episode, so I am open for discussion...

Finest time line
]Jeff is the repressing father figure, as he always is. And when the cat's away, the mice will play (in Dutch the same saying is even 'dansen', dance!). I am afraid that's all there is to it. He still thinks Abed and Troy are childish (eternal vrginity) and still goes for the chicks like in 1.01, this time Annie. Nothing's new.

Worst time line
With Troy away, and he indeed is the most binding character from the group. I doubt that was the original planning, and like to believe it was something that developed unnoticed and unevitable. Maybe something's new.

These two time lines were the extremes, the others were compared with them quite in the middle. For the sake of the plot they wanted two extremes and that Jeff and Troy were chosen was of course not accidental.

What I admired in the episode was the way the throws were visualized, with the die flowing in the air, getting bigger, and falling on a different number. Tension was built, accompanied by the same sinister words of Abed.

The best joke was imo the pizzaman (forced up the stairs by Britta), hearing Abed and then questioning bewildered: 'are there different time lines?'

I don't get the Pizza man Joke at all

Maybe, but I guess finding a situation absurd is very personal. The man has to learn one line and that is 'Are there other time lines?' He is rehearsing it to himself, hoping it will be his breakthrough to Hollywood. I am afraid I also find that funny, just as when Leonard only has to say 'I have no cable'.

This was the best episode of the season (and this was the best season of the series so far). There's a lot to this episode and you notice new things every time you rewatch it (I've seen it three times now, before finally deleting it off the DVR).

To me, some part of this episode was about passing the protagonist torch from Jeff to Abed, not fully of course, but season 3 "featured" Abed much more than usual and very often as the central protagonist.

The episode also suggested the universe has some actual karma to it, despite how obviously random and uncontrollable it is. Jeff's attempt to "cheat" the group is exposed, Jeff suffers (albeit only a little) and the rest of the group generally thrives. It's a really clever episode.

Now I want to see it again and I deleted it from my DVR :(

This episode was just nominated for an "Outstanding Writing" Emmy, which is very cool. I think it stands out as one of the best episodes of the entire series. I hope it is referred to and used in season 4.

Again, I really like the idea that perhaps Abed distorted the time-space continuum when he stopped Jeff from throwing the die.

A fine choice for the nomination, it's probably my favorite episode of the show ever.

I still think it's a disgrace that Modern Family get 4 out of 6 of the nominations in the Male Lead category. It's a sad world we live in.
