Season 2 Episode 10
TROY GETS MORE THAN HE BARGAINED FOR WHEN THE STUDY GROUP GATHERS TO CELEBRATE HIS BIRTHDAY - When the study group convenes to celebrate Troy's (Donald Glover) birthday, they realize he is actually turning 21 and decide to hit the bars! While Jeff (Joel McHale) and Britta (Gillian Jacobs) ingest a few too many cocktails and get silly, Shirley (Yvette Nicole Brown) gets busy pulling down incriminating photos of herself that are posted at the bar. Annie (Alison Brie) embraces the identify on her fake ID, while Abed (Danny Pudi) delves into conversation with a fellow sci-fi nerd. When Senor Chang (Ken Jeong) finds the fresh remains of a birthday cake in the study room, he vows to find the group. Chevy Chase also stars.

A bar episode! Now this sounds excellent.
Everything in that blurb made me excited.

...Wait a second.
Isn't Troy Jehovah's Witness? They don't celebrate birthdays!
I guess it could just be Troy's parents who are hardcore JW.

I think that's going to be a big part of the storyline. Like the group wants to give Troy the best birthday ever because he never got to celebrate them as a kid or something like that.

What I was going to say. So far Community has shown itself to forget little plot points like that; in fact they've brought the JW thing back multiple times now. I doubt they'd ditch it now.

Hopefully we'll be in for some Accounting For Lawyers-level silliness this week. I really like seeing the study group out of their element(s?).

I'm looking forward to this one! Really, I'm looking forward to all of them. But after the break last week, I'm especially ready.

I have to work though the episode tomorrow.. my DVR better not miss this recording!
Seriously though, this and next week's episode, along with the coming end of this semester are what's getting me through the end of this semester.
Hey look! The Big Bang Theory is a repeat this week!
... that might make me feel more apprehensive than excited, actually...

It was a jarring, yet great episode. Abed unintentionally trolling the gay guy was hilarious, The way they handled Troy's birthday party in the beginning was brilliant (I have JW friend who I should show this to) and Annie's accent and crazy stories were great lol

I would point out some things about this episode that I liked.... but I'd end up recapping the entire thing. I'm trying to think of stuff I didn't like, and I am really drawing a blank. Maybe on my second watch I'll find some. I dunno.

I thought it was a really good ep. Yes, it was a quieter one, and they went easy on the wacky, suspend-your-disbelief stuff, which I thought was just fine. I thought that what they showed about how drunkenness affects people was right on the money! It was such a novel concept to write a show about how drunkenness *isn't* always the greatest thing in the world. Did anyone else think, for just a second, that Annie was going to kiss Troy at her doorway? Anyone? Just me? Okay.
Finally, Texan Annie? Wow. Just...wow. That was hotter than a pepper sprout on a jackrabbit's ass. I just made that up.

I love Shirley's part. They seem to forget Pierce. and...
Where the hell was Chang?

He was supposed to be in this episode. I guess his scenes were cut for time or something.

They should put them in the Season 2 DVD or (hopefully)Blu-Ray.

It would be interesting to see how the addition of a bit of spare Chang would change the tone of the episode. I'm honestly not sure if he would've fit in with the third act... unless they could find a way to insert real drama into his desire to be a part of the group.

Hello all, I was wondering about Annie living in a lousy apartment this episode, so I went back to watch the beginning of Season 2 episode 1. In the wake up montage if you pause the frame on Annie's bedroom you can see she has bars on her windows.
I guess Dan Harmon isn't making it up as he goes along!

I don't know if Chang was necessary for the episode. I'm sure his deleted scenes are funny, but this episode was so perfect the way it is that I can't see him doing anything but breaking up the pacing, unfortunately.
